How do I update my Puffin device?
If your Puffin device is connected to the internet, it will automatically check for updates on Start. You can start the update by pressing the O button. Updates may take a few minutes, please be patient. Note that the first time you update, you may be asked to update again after you restart. This is normal.
How do I update the Puffin Pal app?
You can update the Puffin Pal app by going to the App Store (for iOS devices) or Android Play Store (for Android devices). This app may update automatically depending on your device's settings.
How do I turn my Puffin device on?
You can turn the Puffin device on by pressing the power button on the side of the device for around 1 second. Like a phone, the Puffin device is also able to be turned completely off by holding the button down for three seconds. If it is in this state, you will need to hold the button down for three seconds again to turn it on. This can be useful if you are having issues with the device.
My Puffin device is in Wi-Fi setup mode, but I cannot see a Wi-Fi named Puffin.
If you are unable to see a Wi-Fi named Puffin, please try restarting the Puffin device and check. Sometimes the device name may be starting with ESP. If you see a device starting with ESP, try connecting to this instead.
Help, things are not working and I think I've found a bug.
The Puffin device is a research prototype, so it may have bugs. If you think you've found a bug or something is not working, please email us or contact us. Please include what is not working and what you were doing with the Puffin Device or App when it stopped working. We'll do our best to solve the problem and make any updates to the app or device if needed.
How can I withdraw from the study and remove my data?
If you wish to withdraw from the pilot program and request the deletion of your data, please visit the Withdrawal Information page for instructions.
Where can I download the app?
You can download the app from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store.
Help! I think I've broken the device or app.
If you think the device or app is broken, please contact us and we'll see if we can fix it. If we can't fix it, we'll be able to send you a new device. Don't worry, your data is stored in real-time, so you won't lose any of your participation in the trial.
Is the Puffin device available outside of the trial?
The Puffin device is currently only available during the trial. We are looking into making this more broadly available in the future. If you would like more information, please contact us.
Can I use other USB cables to charge the device?
You can use any USB-C cable or charger to charge your device.
